Neal Applauds 1115 Waiver Amendment Approval

Today, Congressman Richard E. Neal released the following statement applauding the Center for Medicare and Medicaid’s (CMS) approval of the MassHealth Medicaid Section 1115 Demonstration Amendment.

“Massachusetts has long led the nation in its efforts to improve and expand access to health care and health care delivery, with every child and 97% of the adults having health insurance. The Commonwealth’s health care system is the envy of the nation, and approval of this amendment will further improve health care across the state. This new 1115 Waiver is a visionary blueprint that will help bolster efforts to expand access to affordable coverage, address health-related social needs, and reduce medical cost burden across the state.

“I was pleased to convene the Massachusetts delegation for a meeting with Governor Healey to discuss the impact this amendment would have on the Commonwealth, and subsequently with CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, a former staffer on the Ways and Means Committee, to voice our strong support for this amendment.

“As Republicans fail to address our nation’s border security, Massachusetts is at the forefront of innovative efforts to help support the influx of migrant families, ensuring the state has the means to provide for them while minimizing the strain on state resources. Under this new waiver, patients who are not otherwise Medicaid or CHIP eligible can receive the best care possible no matter their financial status, and our state’s health care providers will have the means to deliver it.”
