Neal Statement on Trump v. United States
Springfield, MA,
July 1, 2024
Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled in Trump v. United States:
“248 years ago this week, our founding fathers followed a dream of creating a land governed by the will of the many after escaping the rule and edicts of a King. Yet, now, the former president’s majority on the Supreme Court has dangerously ruled that he is above the law even with his most egregious attack on our democracy. Subverting our government and encouraging a mob to undermine the outcome of a fair and free election is not the work of the President, and it certainly wasn’t what our founders imagined. So long as the judicial branch is rubberstamping the will of a convicted felon, our democracy stands in grave danger.” ### |
