Neal Statement Mourning the Loss of the Inimitable Bill Pascrell

Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) issued the following statement on the passing of Oversight Subcommittee Ranking Member Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ):

“To say I am heartbroken doesn’t begin to cover it. Billy was the type of fighter they don’t make anymore. For 16 years, he has been the heart of the Ways and Means Democrats, bringing vigor and tenacity to all our work. Bill was fueled by his God-given purpose: the righteous fight to do what’s best for his brothers and sisters in New Jersey and beyond. A true son of Paterson, he never forgot where he came from. He never shied away from saying what needed to be said and could just as quickly turn around to share a laugh with anyone, even those who caught his most spirited critiques. He took on behemoths in the face of injustice and fought ferociously for tax fairness.

“Bill was the epitome of a public servant and a true champion of the little guy. I will never forget Bill’s love for his district, the privilege he felt serving his constituents and country, and most of all, his devotion to Elsie and his family. My prayers are with all fortunate enough to love him and his dedicated staff during this painful time.

“Bill’s fire and fierce advocacy live on in the work still left to do. I will miss my friend more than anything.”
