Neal Statement on December 2024 Jobs Report

Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) December 2024 jobs report: "The Biden-Harris Administration hasn’t just shattered expectations, it’s redefined them. After rescuing the economy from its worst crisis since the Great Depression, in just four years, they created over 16 million jobs, stamped out inflation, raised wages, and ignited a Made-in-America manufacturing boom. While administrations dream of having more quarters of job growth than loss, President Biden added jobs every single month of his presidency. That is because by championing workers’ rights to expanding healthcare, this Administration, in lockstep with House Democrats, has delivered for families like never before. We’ve secured paychecks and life savings and paved the way for a more sustainable and fairer future. “Meanwhile, Republicans and the incoming Administration seem to be lost. While they can’t agree so much on a lunch order, never mind what path they want to take to advance their chaotic and dangerous agenda, they’ve refocused on downright absurdities. From floating a bizarre ‘manifest destiny’ of invading our peaceful allies to assembling a ‘Billionaires R' Us' Cabinet aimed at enriching themselves and their friends, they aren’t focused on the American people. While they distract with this nonsense, Democrats are focused on what actually matters: making life better for everyday Americans. “The impacts of this Administration will be felt for decades. The tools are in place for future Administrations to build on our progress that unleashes the power of an already booming economy and the American worker that powers it. But there is a choice to be made for Republicans: a path where billionaires hoard tax breaks while healthcare and middle-class investments vanish, or a path where American workers continue to thrive. “House Democrats stand ready to work with anyone to expand healthcare, guarantee paid leave, build affordable housing, and deliver tax relief to the middle-class. What we won’t stand for is corporate handouts, soaring costs for families, or stripped benefits for seniors. When Republicans inevitably veer off course, Democrats will keep fighting for the American family, because our future depends on it. “President-elect Trump, this economy’s resilience and strength now lie in your hands. Your decisions, and the consequences they bear, will speak for themselves.” ### |
