Neal Statement on Biden Administration’s Latest Action to Lower Drug Prices
Springfield, MA,
January 17, 2025
Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement applauding the Biden Administration's announcement of the selection of the next 15 prescription drugs to be negotiated by Medicare under the Inflation Reduction Act’s drug pricing negotiation program: “President Biden and his Administration are materially lowering costs and changing lives with the latest round of 15 drugs selected for Medicare drug price negotiation. When Ways and Means Democrats delivered the landmark Inflation Reduction Act, we did so to put an end to seniors having to ration or forgo medicine and finally put their needs ahead of Big Pharma’s profits. Now, the 25 drugs that Medicare negotiates lower prices on represent a third of the Medicare Part D spending. This is outstanding progress in just two short years. From breast cancer to diabetes to asthma, millions of seniors are benefitting from these slashed prices and more money back in their pockets. “While President Biden is working to lower costs until his very last day in office, House Republicans took the first chance they had to introduce legislation to undo our progress and raise costs on the American people. Instead of actively undermining a popular effort, I’d welcome them in joining us in doing the work of the people and notching record savings on prescription drugs.” ### |
