Neal Names Jennifer Hanson Social Security Staff Director

Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) announced today that Jennifer Hanson will serve as Social Security Staff Director. Ms. Hanson comes to Ways and Means from the Office of Management and Budget where she led the Income Maintenance Branch for the last decade.

“I am delighted to welcome Ms. Hanson to the Ways and Means Committee as the leader of our Social Security team,” said Ranking Member Neal. “Her extensive background and experience overseeing numerous federal programs at the executive level and with the House and Senate Budget Committees will bring a masterful perspective to the Committee, and I look forward to working together to not only protect and defend Social Security for generations to come but also highlight Republicans’ dangerous cuts agenda.”

Most recently, Ms. Hanson served as Chief of the Income Maintenance Branch at the Office of Management and Budget, a position she held for over ten years. In that role, she advanced numerous White House priorities, including increasing Social Security access, enhancing the SNAP and WIC programs, and securing billions for the Unaccompanied Children program. Before that, Ms. Hanson worked as a Budget Analyst for the House Committee on the Budget and Director of Mandatory Programs and Senior Advisor for Social Security and Medicare for the Senate Committee on the Budget. Ms. Hanson has overseen more than $1.5 trillion in federal programs’ budget development and is known for fostering bipartisan collaboration.

Ms. Hanson is a double graduate of Indiana University.
