Rep. Neal criticizes Trump orders at town hall meeting

By Jonah Snowden, 22 News

A Massachusetts lawmaker held a town hall meeting Thursday evening to address concerns about the trump administration’s recent executive orders.

Congressman Richard Neal spoke with constituents over the phone, criticizing what he calls “the chaotic decision making” made by President Donald Trump.

Neal highlighted the infiltration of the U.S. Treasury’s Payment System, which contains a large amount of taxpayer data. Elon Musk, who now heads the Department of Government Efficiency, has full access to the system. It includes names, social security numbers, tax refunds, and other personal material.

Neal said Musk having access to this information is unconstitutional, “This is confidential information, the unelected including Elon Musk who has been pouring through this information, they’ve been doing this in an arbitrary manner. I think it violates the Constitution. It is sensitive and they deserve assurance that their data is protected and confidential”

Neal emphasized that Congress does not serve under a president of the United States. He is calling for his colleagues to challenge some of these important decisions coming from Trump’s administration.
