M/Speaker, I rise today, because looting is underway. 

Our Republican colleagues are running the same failed playbook of trickle-down handouts that massively benefit the wealthiest, gut crucial programs that deliver health care and food assistance, all while exploding the deficit.

Every promise made by the Republicans was a lie. Every concern over the national debt was a lie.

Let me say once and for all: when cutting taxes for billionaires is an option, Republicans do not care about anything else. Not the deficit. Not their constituents.

My colleagues are so brazen that their cuts to the health care of children and vulnerable Americans and food assistance are a 1 for 1 ratio to the $1.1 trillion they’ll turn around and hand to the top 1%. Folks making three-quarters of a million dollars getting an additional $165 in their pocket every day, while the bottom 60% only get a dollar and a dime per day.

That won’t be anywhere near enough to close the gap left from the cuts Republicans have in store. Let alone deliver relief! 

It’s not the will of the people, even their supporters. 71 percent of Trump voters said cutting Medicaid is unacceptable. 2 out of 3 of their supporters disapprove of any tax cuts for the rich.

With this budget resolution, Republicans are making life harder for moms, for babies, for our nation’s seniors, while billionaires are enriching themselves.

There’s absolutely no reason why millionaires should receive a handout that’s 288 times larger than those making less than $50,000 would get.

The people are watching, and Democrats will not stop fighting for the relief they deserve.
