Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after voting “No” on Republicans’ betrayal of the American people under the cover of night: 

“Most of this resolution’s spending will enrich the President, his billionaire friends, and the wealthiest Americans, while most of the cuts come on the backs of people doing everything they can to get by. House Republicans thought the people weren’t looking tonight when they pulled a bait and switch. They couldn’t be more wrong. The people are well aware of the extraordinary cruelty in this resolution, and they are scared. With 71 percent of Trump supporters opposing cuts to Medicaid, my Republican colleagues just walked a plank of betrayal. 

“Responsibly funding a tax bill is possible, and I know because I’ve done it. That’s not what’s coming, and Ways and Means Democrats look forward to exposing the billionaire boon for what it is.”
