Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) February 2025 jobs report:

“When the President took the reins of the economy, we warned that the impacts of his decisions would speak for themselves. Six weeks later, the consequences of the President’s actions are undeniable—his reckless trade war, his willingness to turn executive power over to unelected billionaires, to fire thousands of civil servants and shutter IRS and Social Security offices nationwide all signal an alarming betrayal of the American people. They cannot afford more of this Administration’s weaponized negligence and will suffer. 

“Markets are falling. Consumer sentiment is plummeting. GDP is projected to shrink. In just 46 days, Donald Trump took the booming economy he inherited and implemented policies that are already deteriorating our progress. This destructive path steals from families, strips health care from moms and babies, and jeopardizes seniors’ retirement.

“No matter where the President’s chaos goes from here, Democrats will continue fighting to put workers and their families first. We will continue fighting for our economic partnerships and global alliances. We will continue fighting for middle class relief, not billionaire bailouts. The people deserve nothing less.”
