Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after Senate Republicans released their budget blueprint and attempted to disguise over $5 trillion in spending that will primarily benefit the wealthiest Americans:

“Today will go down as the day Republicans liberated themselves from any delusion of fiscal responsibility. They are cooking the books to pretend they have limited their welfare for the billionaire class to a mere $1.5 trillion. Don’t fall for it. Despite their desperation, the additional $3.8 trillion in giveaways can’t be hidden by budget gimmicks. 

“The numbers are the numbers, and when accounting for interest, Republicans just teed up a $6 trillion giveaway to the wealthiest Americans. Good luck hiding from that.”

Earlier this week, Ranking Member Neal penned an op-ed in the Washington Post outlining how America can’t afford Trump’s tax cuts, and the Republicans will go to any length to disguise the true cost to American taxpayers.
