Ways and Means Democrats Expand Oversight of the Trump Administration and Demand Answers on DOGE’s Meddling in the National Database for New Hires and the Social Security Administration

Ways and Means Democrats have filed two more Resolutions of Inquiry, demanding all information on DOGE’s unauthorized probes into the National Directory for New Hires and cuts at the Social Security AdministrationWASHINGTON, DC – Ways and Means Democrats are united in pursuing two more Resolution of Inquiries, a critical tool of Congress to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch, and are now focused on DOGE’s continued meddling in the National Directory of New Hires (NDNH) and the backdoor benefit cuts taking place at the Social Security Administration (SSA). Led by Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Ranking Member Danny K. Davis (D-IL) and Congressman Steven Horsford (D-NV), respectively, Ways and Means Democrats are searching for more information regarding Elon Musk and DOGE’s continued rampage through key data sets and changes to customer service functions that affect the people. The NDNH is a confidential database of personal and financial information of every worker in America. Used to enforce child support payments, this directory includes quarterly wage data, unemployment benefit data, and sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, names, and addresses. Infiltrating this database is DOGE’s next attempt to access the private tax information of every American, in violation of court orders protecting the confidentiality of this data. At the same time, Musk and the DOGE team are gleefully destroying the Social Security Administration and therefore making backdoor cuts to the American people’s earned benefits. The playbook is simple: erode public confidence in SSA by shuttering key services, make it more susceptible to privatization, and allow Wall Street to rob it blind. “This Administration can ignore our requests for additional information, and House Republicans can bury their heads in the sand, attempting to avoid the crises at hand, but Ways and Means Democrats will not stop fighting for answers for the people,” said Ranking Member Neal. “The Courts have been clear to DOGE: hands off the people’s data, and the people have been clear too: hands off our earned benefits.” “Ways and Means Democrats will fight to protect the privacy and earned Social Security benefits of every American,” said Ranking Member Davis. “In violation of the courts and against the will of the people, DOGE is leading the largest security breach of government data - accessing the most private tax, unemployment, health and child support information to use for unmonitored purposes serving their own interests rather than those of our constituents.” “My constituents who paid into Social Security deserve the benefits they’ve earned, regardless of whether they visit a field office,” Rep. Horsford said. “Social Security recipients may not have the mobility for an in-person visit, or they may live in remote areas without offices nearby. Either the Trump administration overlooked these very obvious facts, or they simply don’t care. Either way, Nevadans and people across America deserve better. Thanks to public outcry, Social Security is narrowing the scope of the new policy, but we still need to demand answers. The Resolution of Inquiry I’m leading with my Ways and Means colleagues will bring accountability to an administration that is generating chaos, shutting down SSA offices, and gutting staff.” The ROI, led by Worker and Family Support Subcommittee Ranking Member Danny K. Davis (D-IL), directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to transmit any relevant documentation to the House of Representatives relating to the effect on taxpayer and child privacy of the seizure by the so-called ‘‘Department of Government Efficiency’’ of legally-protected identity and financial data stored in the National Directory of New Hires and the Federal Parent Locator Service. The second one, submitted by Representative Steven Horsford (D-NV), requests the President of the United States to furnish certain information to the House of Representatives relating to the operations of the Social Security Administration after March 12, 2025, including information on the Department of Government Efficiency’s access to the Social Security Administration and to information in the possession of such Administration. Read the NDNH ROI HERE. Read the SSA ROI HERE. Ways and Means Democrats will proceed down every avenue possible to fight this brutal encroachment on the proper function of government by the DOGE team. The oversight inquiries will continue until answers are exposed. ### |
