Neal Statement on Trump’s Cruel Budget Proposal
Springfield, MA,

Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after President Trump released his FY26 budget proposal: “Today’s budget proposal is an appetizer of cruelty ahead of the harm the President has in store with his marquee legislation. Even his own Republican friends see this for what it is: a vision for a colder, sicker, poorer, and crueler America. “Eliminating a program that provides support to families who need help heating their homes in the winter. Billions removed from disease research and prevention. Is it really about 'ending weaponization' if the President is stripping the IRS’s ability to catch rich tax frauds and punishing a university that defied him on the same day? “The President isn’t fooling anybody on Social Security either. The Social Security Administration is in customer service free fall due to his constant attacks, with seniors struggling to access their earned benefits. Without an investment in customer service, he’s only making the crisis he created worse. “The President deemed these life-saving functions unworthy of funding, but somehow found tens of billions for his mass deportations. “Families are buckling under Trump’s economic chaos, and the American people deserve a budget that puts their needs first. What the President proposed will do the opposite.” ### |
