Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Trump Administration gutted the Internal Revenue Service budget:

“Let’s call this what it is: a giveaway to tax cheats. Slashing the IRS budget will undermine customer service and enforcement, enable the richest to dodge what they owe, and shift the burden onto everyone else. This isn’t fiscal responsibility, it’s deliberate sabotage of tax enforcement to benefit Trump’s billionaire donors and friends who have his ear and want to take advantage of the tax code. With this gutting, they are getting exactly what they wanted, and the American people are getting a system rigged against them."
