Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) latest analysis affirmed that Trump’s reckless tariff scheme will slow growth and raise prices: 

“The CBO’s report confirms what workers and families have feared for months: Trump’s Tariffs are bad news for our economy, shrinking future output and driving up prices. This administration’s approach to trade is not only economically unsound but also unconstitutional, and the people will get socked with the bill. Trade should drive economic growth while protecting American workers, yet over in the Senate right now, key Trump advisors are showing how they don’t even understand basic trade concepts. How can the American people trust them to have their backs? Enough is enough — these reckless tariffs will increase prices on every American, and the damage won’t be forgotten anytime soon.”
