BOSTON (WWLP) – Governor Charlie Baker was joined by Congressman Richard Neal at his news conference Monday to discuss the state’s COVID response efforts.

Both Neal and Baker feel confident about the Commonwealth’s ability to rebound from this virus. They say they’ve been in constant contact since the start of pandemic and they plan to keep up that communication.

Gov. Baker thanked Congressman Neal for helping Massachusetts get through the worst parts of the pandemic. Together, the two provided over a billion dollars for local communities, many of which used that money to re-open schools.

Neal and Baker also worked together on food security, dispersing over $50 million across the state in an effort to prevent residents from going hungry. These are just a few of the things that Baker and Neal hope to continue funding with the next relief package.

“And it would be critical from our point of view for congress to significant relief swiftly to help us beat down the pandemic and just as importantly help our economy get back on track,” said Gov. Baker.

By the end of the week, Neal expects the House Ways and Means Committee to pass another COVID relief bill. He expects that package to include more funding for schools, a higher child tax credit, and $2,000 in direct stimulus payments.
