Amtrak's seasonal weekend service between Albany, NY and Pittsfield, MA, the Berkshire Flyer, restarts for the 2025 season on Friday, June 20th. The route will be impacted by unplanned maintenance to start. Amtrak said a routine inspection identified an issue with surrounding land adjacent to the track's infrastructure between Albany, NY and Boston, MA. The Lake Shore Limited train, which stops at Worcester's Union Station, is also affected. Amtrak said alternate bus transportation will be provided along the route for the duration of the maintenance. Entering the service's fourth year, Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal touts the Berkshire Flyer's overall success in the area and he said he wants to ensure the service remains running. Neal on the Berkshire Flyer, "I think that it's been quite successful and what we want is a greater certainty that we won't be worried about the annual allocation. That we won't be able to proceed based upon the evidence. Instead, it's quite popular. We subsidize an awful lot of other transportation services in America. This one is very effective." The first substitute bus service is scheduled to arrive in Pittsfield at 8:39pm on Friday. The first service out of Pittsfield departs at 3:30pm on Sunday. |
