SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Community leaders are making a final push to get Massachusetts residents health insurance coverage.

Open enrollment ends this Friday, and state leaders are making their final push to help residents get insurance before it’s too late.

Congressman Richard Neal was in Springfield this morning to discuss health insurance coverage as the deadline for open enrollment approaches. The extension of open enrollment for Health Connector ends this Friday. Hispanic and LatinX residents make up roughly a quarter of the state’s uninsured, compared to 12 percent of the overall state population.

The Health Connector estimates the new federal financial assistance can directly help thousands of Massachusetts residents with monthly premium costs.

Congressman Richard Neal said, “There is no reason up to July 23 that people who are languishing not to take advantage of this. The economics work, the healthcare work, and the access work.”

“This has never been a more important time for people to have access to healthcare and a lot of people going through economic challenges a lot of people lost their jobs and trying to get back on their feet,” said Audrey Gasteier, chief of policy and strategy for Massachusetts Health Connector. “Having health coverage and having access to it that provides more affordability than ever before is critical.”

According to the Health Connector website, the call center is experiencing long wait times due to a system outage.
