HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Congressman Richard Neal of Springfield was a guest of honor Thursday at a weekly luncheon for Veterans and their families. The congressman received a warm welcome at St.Paul's Episcopal Church in Holyoke. It's been several years since St. Paul's began hosting the Thursday meals for local veterans and their families. The majority of the veterans are Vietnam veterans. Congressman Neal told 22News, he's glad he accepted their invitation. "Many of the people that we have here today, they deserved the veterans benefit they originally earned at an earlier stage in their lives," said Neal. "So for me, accepting their invitation was met with great enthusiasm." The neighborhood organization "Community Roots" sponsors these weekly veterans lunches in conjunction with the Holyoke Soldiers Home. |
