WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) - The memory of 9/11 victim Rick Phillips of Wilbraham lives on in the agency named in his honor. Congressman Richard Neal toured Rick's Place at Post Office Park in Wilbraham on Monday. It's where children who have lost a parent can share their emotions with other grieving children.
Congressman Neal told 22News these services weren't available when he lost his mother when he was 13.
"I think of that time, which is now more than 50 years ago, you're also reminded of the instruction we got was 'buck up and get with it,'" Neal recalled. "This is a lasting memorial to a terrible tragedy, that will help hundreds of others who will come. They'll hear and be reminded of the special gift he made and did not intend to make."
Since Rick's Place was founded in 2002, hundreds of children from between the ages of five and 18 have benefited from the sharing of grief over the loss of a parent.
