Neal Statement on House Passage of Treasury and IRS Funding

Today, Ways & Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 264, legislation to fund the Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS):

“Democrats are committed to fully funding the government, and with this bill, we are one step closer to re-opening Treasury and the IRS and to getting more than 70,000 government employees across the country back to work. President Trump’s unnecessary shutdown has caused undue hardship for families who have gone without income, and for taxpayers who have sought, and been unable to receive, assistance from the Treasury Department during this time. The Senate should not hesitate to follow the House’s lead, pass this legislation, and get it to President Trump for his signature. Immediate action is needed to ensure Americans receive the tax refunds they rely on in a timely fashion, to protect Treasury employees from missing more paychecks, and to avert chaos during filing season and beyond.”
