Neal Statement on Senate Passage of the USMCA
Washington, DC,
January 16, 2020
Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Senate passed implementing legislation for the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA): “With a bipartisan majority of Senators’ support, this landmark trade bill now moves to the President’s desk. This legislation was the culmination of months of House Democrats’ work to transform the new NAFTA into a deal that respects the dignity of workers, contains meaningful enforcement provisions, and prioritizes environmental protection and remediation. The changes we achieved set a new standard for U.S. trade agreements and demonstrate that our trade deals can achieve broad bipartisan support if they empower workers, protect patients’ access to affordable health care, and improve our shared environment.” ### |
