This morning, the Ways & Means Committee passed H.R. 1759, the Building on Reemployment Improvements to Deliver Good Employment for Workers (BRIDGE for Workers) Act, legislation that ensures that states would be able to use reemployment service grants to serve all workers receiving earned unemployment benefits who need them. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) introduced the measure.

“The BRIDGE for Workers Act makes a simple but very important change to the law, allowing states to tailor their programs to help any recipient of unemployment benefits get back to work faster, rather than limiting reemployment supports to those who are expected to remain unemployed until their benefits run out,” said Chairman Richard Neal (D-MA). “I applaud Congresswoman Murphy for introducing this bill, which will help Americans quickly rejoin the workforce in communities across the nation.”

The BRIDGE for Workers Act builds on legislation that was enacted last year to expand and improve access to reemployment services for workers who receive earned unemployment benefits while looking for new jobs.
