CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was shot and killed by an ICE officer in Minnesota, prompting Congressman Richard Neal to label the incident as “egregious behavior.”
This incident comes amid ongoing discussions in Congress regarding military actions in Venezuela, particularly involving President Trump’s administration.
Congressman Neal expressed his condemnation of the shooting, asserting that ICE has “moved beyond what they originally set out to do.” He emphasized the need for accountability in such incidents.
In addition to discussing the shooting, Neal addressed concerns regarding President Trump’s plans to control Venezuela’s oil and the military’s role in capturing Nicolas Maduro, who faces criminal charges in Manhattan. Neal expressed concerns about the legality of these military actions, stating that they violate international law without congressional approval.
Neal also criticized the ongoing focus on acquisition talks regarding Greenland, suggesting it should not be a priority for the U.S. at this time. He pointed out that pursuing Greenland could jeopardize longstanding alliances, particularly with NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Denmark.
“If that proceeds… Congressman Neal worries that NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization who is allied with the U.S. and Denmark, would end our decades-long alliance,” Neal articulated during his discussion about U.S. interests in Greenland.
Following Neal’s remarks, there will likely be continued scrutiny regarding the actions and policies surrounding ICE and military involvement in foreign affairs. Further developments are expected as Congress deliberates on these pressing issues.
