The national economy added 73,000 jobs in July and 258,000 fewer jobs were created in May and June than previously estimated.

The numbers were so bad, Trump fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics that oversees the report.

U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal, D-Springfield, linked the poor jobs numbers to sweeping tariffs on 90 nations Trump announced overnight.

“It’s not just bad economics, it’s dangerous and corrupt. Trump is shaking down sovereign governments to serve his own political and financial interests, weakening our security partnerships, and protecting coup leaders by interfering in the judicial process,” Neal wrote in a news release.

Both congressmen targeted Trump’s recently passed domestic policy and budget bill.

“Trump is further rigging the economy in broad daylight,” Neal wrote. “The American people didn’t ask for this. Hiring has stalled, prices are surging, and this administration is actively undermining the labor market Democrats rebuilt.”
